Unless we indicate otherwise, all our T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies maybe be washed either by hand or in a washing machine.
Machine washing
It is recommended to wash in 30 – 40 deg on a normal cycle, with the garment turned inside out in order to protect the print from abrasion. It is best to avoid harsh detergents, or detergents that encourage the bleaching of the garment, as such detergents can be responsible for lifting the print away from the fibres. Although we guarantee the colour fastness of our textiles, it is recommended to separate white garments from coloured, and fleece garments from other items. Do not tumble dry.
Hand washing
It is recommended to wash in 30 – 40 deg, with the garment turned inside out in order to protect the print from abrasion. It is best to avoid harsh detergents, or detergents that encourage the bleaching of the garment, as such detergents can be responsible for lifting the print away from the fibres. Do not wring T-shirts. It is better to roll them in a dry towel to remove excess water. Lay flat to dry.
Light stains
We recommend trying to remove makeup and food stains with uncoloured dishwashing detergent before washing them in a washing machine. Such detergents are created to lift oils and fats that cause the stain to stick to the fibres. Never rub a stain in circles – always rub across the stain in one direction, preferably the direction of the textile weave.
Dry cleaning
We do not recommend dry-cleaning our products. But if you wish to dry-clean your garment, please consult a reputable dry cleaning company and follow their recommendations.
Hanging vs. folding
We all know how folded T-shirts retain their fold lines, even after we've put them on and worn them for a while. Hung T-shirts retain imprints from the hanger. Natural fibres relax and contract, and respond to warm and cool temperatures.
To reshape a garment, wet or steam the garment and lay it flat in a warm place until it is dry. Laying several T-shirts together and rolling them up is also recommended – especially for storage and traveling.
Pressing
If the garment needs to be pressed – it is best to turn the garment inside out. Never place an iron directly on a print. If the garment is printed with 3D or embroidered details, avoid touching or pressing this area.
Caring for the printed image
To retain the vividness, structure and quality of the print, it is recommended to wash the garment only when necessary. Never use a hot iron directly on the print, and avoid laying the garment on hot heaters.
Detergents and water can penetrate the fibres under the print and over time create air pockets. Eventually the print will start to lift away from the fibres creating a vintage effect.
Fading, artificial holes and image deconstruction
All printed images have a limited life span – even though they seem to last forever. Many enjoy the natural aged-effect of an old, well loved T-shirt or sweatshirt. Freelabel also recommends you enjoy your garment, and celebrate these changes over time.
In order to fast track this wonderful process – cut the garment as desired and wash 2-3 times in a washing machine. Bleaches and chlorinated detergents may artificially remove dyes from the garment (although this may not always work as desired). To deconstruct a printed image, we recommend sand paper, and repeated washing.
